'Boy' explores how society and environments influence our behaviour, leading us to question our place in the world. Where does a secretly gay boy belong in society?
The first queer movie I watched was called ‘Mysterious Skin’ by Gregg Araki. An adaption of the novel written by Scott Heim. A beautifully disturbing story of 2 young boys who experience the same traumatic event and yet were affected in vastly different ways later in life - I was fascinated with the characters. The film had a profound effect on me during my own challenges with sexuality and identity. As the project progressed, the concept evolved to display more about myself than Mysterious Skin.
The aesthetics were inspired by Haptic Cinema which portrays physical forms of tangible and sensory expression.
